The Masculine Mandate

Where are the real men in today's world? The book The Masculine Mandate by Richard Phillips attempts to answer this question by showing from scripture what God calls manhood. This book is very timely especially after hearing of a new book just out about a Momma’s princess boy who loves to dress up in girl's clothes. It shouldn't surprise us that true Christianity is always counter cultural and manhood is no exception. This book got me excited about understanding what God's calling is for men, namely to work and to keep. I found Phillips basic summary of our calling, "We are to devote ourselves to working/building and keeping/protecting everything placed into our charge," very helpful as I seek to glorify God with my marriage, raising up my children, at work, at church, and in the community. I couldn't agree more with the authors’ points regarding the God given desires for young men and women to unite in marriage and the complete travesty in our Christian culture which tells young people to put off marriage, which in turn perpetuates immaturity. As Phillips makes his arguments he backs them up with solid, thought-provoking theology; I plan to his exegesis of Genesis 3:14-19 as I explain the Fall to my wife and children.

I received a review copy of this book from Reformation Trust.
