Awhile back I read a fascinating book on the life of Galileo Galilei by Thomas Nelson. Galilei, more commonly known by his first name 'Galileo', is as you will recall from grade school, the 'Father of Modern Science'. One of the most important theories that Galileo supported is called Heliocentrism, meaning the planets revolve around the Sun at the center of the Solar System, which I learned (actually more like re-learned) was first discovered by Copernicus. This advocacy cost Galileo quite a bit and the Pope declared that this type of teaching was heresy and he was actually condemned to house arrest for the rest of his life. The book written by Mitch Stokes has an amazing amount of research that went into this account and the personality of Galileo as he is recored interacting with contemporary scientists both friend and foe is excellent. The book also does not bore the reader with too many facts and details about the various complicated theories and mathematical statistics that so permeate this great genius's mind but instead focus on his life journey.
I received an advance copy of this book from booksneeze.com
