RC Sproul

I found this book very edifying. The cross is the center of the Christian faith and for Christians to stay grounded as Orthodox in today's pluralist world, the teaching of the Cross must continually be proclaimed from the rooftops. This book helps Christians understand its significance and necessity. Jesus died to save us from the wrath of God. Dr. Sproul clearly points out through several colorful illustrations that our God is Just and he can not simply excuse sin. He will either punish sinners (justice) or provide a way to atone for their sin (mercy); either way God is Justified. Here is a quote from the book; "...don't ever forget the cross, because it was on the cross, through the cross, and by the cross that our Savior performed His work of redemption and gathered His people for eternity." Also, Dr. Sproul provides helpful background on church history and how the truth of the cross was debated then and till this day. The final chapter includes a series of questions and answers which provide an excellent source of meat for personal growth and aid in discussing with unbelievers.
